CENTRE FOR THE ARTS AT MIZNER PARK
ANNOUNCES 2004-05 CLASSICAL CONCERT SERIES
BOCA RATON, FL (October 8, 2004) – “Mendelssohn’s Italian Symphony,” the first performance of the 2nd Annual Classical Concert Series of the Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park, will take place on November 6, 2004, 7:00 p.m., at the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater at Mizner Park in Boca Raton.
The Symphony will be performed by the newly-formed resident orchestra, the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia, composed primarily of musicians who were former members of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra. Albert-George Schram, who conducted the last performance of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, will be conducting the concert. The piano soloist will be Heather Coltman.
Selections will include Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Brahms' Hungarian Dances, Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Lehar's The Merry Widow Favorites and the concluding piece, Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever.

Madelyn Savarick, Centre for the Arts’ board member and local philanthropist, is the presenting sponsor of the four-part classical music program at the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater. The orchestra will consist of a minimum of thirty (30) musicians with additional orchestra members added as required for specific programming. Each concert will feature a different guest conductor and a different featured soloist.
A native of the Netherlands, Albert-George Schram currently serves as resident staff conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and as a regular guest conductor of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. He is also the resident conductor at Lynn University on Boca Raton.
Coltman a native of Zambia, is currently chair of the Department of Music at Florida Atlantic University, where she is a professor of music and the director of keyboard studies.
The Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a cultural heart for the entire South Florida community. Located in Mizner Park, the Centre is currently developing a three-phase project on the north end parcel of land at Mizner Park, which when completed will include the Boca Raton Museum of Art (Phase I, completed January 2001), the Count de Hoernle (outdoor) Amphitheater (Phase II, completed November 2002) and the indoor performing arts hall and arts education building (Phase III). To date, the amphitheater has presented more than 100 programs, attracting 220,000-plus participants.
