Centre

Announces Scholarship Competition Winners
BOCA RATON, Fla.(April 30, 2004) -
The Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park is pleased to
announce the winners of the Centre’s 2nd annual
Michael and Madelyn Savarick Annual Music Scholarship
Competition for orchestral instruments, piano and voice.
The scholarship competition was open to all talented
students in the tri-county area of South Florida - students
from middle school through graduate school.

The
music scholarship auditions were held at the Amarnick-Goldstein
Auditorium on the grounds of Lynn University on March
27th. An awards luncheon, honoring the scholarship recipients
and their families, sponsors of the scholarship competition,
the judges and volunteers was hosted on April 4th at
Boca West Country Club. The Centre for the Arts at Mizner
Park awarded scholarships in denominations of $500 up
to $5,000 dependant upon availability and talent. The
winners of the 2nd annual Michael and Madelyn Savarick
Annual Music Scholarship Competition are: Middle/High
School - $1,200 - Alex Fink, cello;
$1,000 - Nadine Sierra, voice; $500
- Jensen Ling, bassoon; Michael Anderson, piano; Esther
Wang, piano; Catherine Peck-Phillips, violin. College/Graduate
School - $5,000 - Sylvia Kim,
violin; $3,000 - Dmitri Pogorelov,
violin; $2,000 - Danut Muresan, violin;
$1,000 - Yang Lu, viola; Daniel Andai,
violin; Oliver Salonga, piano; $500
- Marta Murvai, violin; Gareth Johnson, violin; Gabrielle
Fink, violin; Edmilson Gomes, trumpet.

The scholarship competition’s presenting sponsor
is Madelyn Savarick, member of the Board of Directors
for the Centre for the Arts. Additional scholarship

the competition. The judges include James Brook-Bruzzese,
Symphony of Americas; Ivan Davis, University of Miami;
Jeff Kaye, Florida Philharmonic; Leonard Sigal, Florida
Philharmonic; George Sparks, Florida Atlantic University
and Dr. Claudio Jaffe, Lynn University Conservatory
of Music.
The
Centre for the Arts at Mizner Park is a not-for-profit
organization, dedicated to creating a cultural heart
for the entire South Florida community, located at Mizner
Park in Boca Raton. The Centre is currently developing
a three phase project on the north end parcel of land
at Mizner Park, which when completed, will include the
Count de Hoernle outdoor Amphitheater (Phase II) which
opened to the public in November 2002 and the indoor
performing arts hall and arts education building (Phase
III). The Boca Raton Museum of Art (Phase I), located
to the west of the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater opened
to the public in January 2001.
