The
Centre and Education
No
community can rely on the school system to provide our
children with adequate education in the arts. The basic
foundation for a successful arts education program is
collaboration and cooperation between the formal educational
establishment and the artists and cultural organizations
possessing high artistic standards. Successful programs
generally have a strong focus, whether it is an outstanding
symphony orchestra reaching out through youth concerts
or in-school programs; a museum teaching painting, drawing,
and sculpture in classes and docent programs; a school-based
curriculum of music and art in the classroom; a community
center providing space and programs for teaching students
of all ages. It is in this role as a hub for strengthened
arts education for all age levels that the Centre for
the Arts will serve the community. But the Centre can
do more.
The
Centre for the Arts will do more through the development
of a partnership with Florida Atlantic University which
will allow the Centre to provide a diverse program of
arts education for the enrichment of the entire community.
It
will allow the University a unique opportunity to develop
facilities management and not-for-profit management
degrees, formal arts education at all levels and an
exciting institute which would be a part of the School
of Business which would establish a business and economics
center for the study and development of the management
of cultural institutions. Such a program would let us
join forces to assure the survival and health of wonderful
arts organizations such as those that will call the
Centre home.
